Plantmation
Botanical Mandala: Letting Time Bloom Among Fallen Leaves
From Foraging to Mindfulness: Arranging the Mandala
Our creative process begins with the touch of nature. Starting from the center, participants use foraged leaves, seeds, and petals to arrange a symmetrical, radiating "Botanical Mandala." This is a mindful practice without the need for sketches. By following the original shapes and colors of the plants, we find inner peace in the repetitive geometric arrangement.
Plantmation: Documenting Growth and Ephemerality
The essence of a mandala is "impermanence"; it will ultimately wither or be scattered by the wind. However, through the lens of stop-motion animation, we transform this fleeting beauty into something eternal. As we arrange the mandala, we utilize the techniques of "Plantmation," capturing the precise moment each leaf and seed is placed, frame by frame.
Witnessing the Flow of Time
When these still photographs are linked together, the static botanical mandala seems to gain a life of its own. On screen, it blooms outward from its center like an organic flower, expanding and contracting as if breathing. This is not merely a visual experiment, but a deeply healing journey to experience the cycles of nature and the continuous flow of time.
